How to Clean Curtains

Curtains are an essential part of any homes decor and should be cared for as such. Many people avoid cleaning curtains since they can be tedious and difficult to clean without damaging. Curtains however look brighter and last longer if proper care is taken of them. Uncleaned curtains carry germs dust and lilt which may be harmful to those within the home as well as adversely affect those prone to allergies as well as asthma sufferers. You do not have to consider cleaning your curtains as a chore that is to be avoided at all costs. Cleaning curtains can be a simple activity that can be done once in a while to brighten up the look of your room.

For you to clean your curtains they need to be removed or unhinged form whatever mechanism that holds them up. Removing the curtains should be pretty straight forward and should take little to no time at all. When the curtains are removed it is wise to take out any hooks and weights that may be on the drapes. This is especially necessary when using a washing machine to wash your curtains.

The next step in cleaning your curtains is to shake them so as to remove any excess dust and lilt. This is a very effective way of removing dirt as you may be surprised at the amount of dirt that will come off by simply shaking the drapes. Shaking off dirt can be done regularly as the need arises as it does not adversely affect the fabric and does not require much time or planning neither.

The next step in cleaning the curtains will be to place them in the washer, ensure that the washer does not have other items in it as these may run off and damage your curtains. A gentle wash should suffice and of course not using any bleach or harsh detergents. It is essential not to place the curtains into the dryer as this may shrink them. Instead, when the drapes are almost dry you may begin to iron them to avoid the appearance of water marks. Ironing should be done on the side that does not show and should also be done vertically so as not to damage them.

That in short is how to easily care for and clean curtains to leave them bright and fresh to liven up any room.
