Often older properties have heritage curtains that have been hanging for many years. These curtains may be real silk or velvets and the property owner wants to keep them as they form part of the property heritage.
This was the case recently when Curtain Clean were sent four large and high real silk curtains that were about 40 years old. Aside from the cleaning of the curtains there was a considerable amount of repair work needed on the curtains.
The sun had attacked the fabric and had caused the fabric to shred down the leading edges, the linnings were perished in the same places. To make the job more involved the curtains had sewn on stripes of a different mateial and they had Goblet Pleats filled with filler to keep them full.
Our task was to make them good again so.
We removed the stripes and reinforced with stitching the weak area’s of fabric. We then washed the curtains gaining a really good result removing 40 years of grime.
Next we had to cut out the shredded sections on each curtain and make those edges good again.
Once that was done the stripes were sewn back in place, goblets refilled and curtains ironed ready for rehanging.
All this was done at approximately 25% of the cost of replacing the Silk curtains with equivalant new silk curtains.
